14 years ago when my husband & I made the decision to stay in beautiful El Pescadero, BCS, Mexico permanently (to the chagrin of our very nervous parents), we looked at each other and said,”Well, one of us has to get a job. [We had kids to support!] Whoever gets one first has to work, the other one will stay home with the kids.”
With that little deal made between us, I applied to an ad in the Gringo Gazette for a wedding planner job in Cabo with an American wedding planning company. (Sometimes I think my hubby didn’t try very hard! LOL) I got the job, learned how to shower & blow dry my hair in our tiny trailer’s outdoor shower on the beach, drove out my dirt road, and showed up to sell & plan weddings! Little did I know back then in 2004, that I’d discover another true love of mine…sharing the beauty of Baja with amazing bridal couples!
Since that fateful conversation, I have had the pleasure of planning, designing and coordinating over 300 weddings here in Baja. But back in the day when I first started (Cabo was a much sleepier town then!), I kept telling myself, ‘You’ve been to a million weddings, how hard can planning a destination wedding be?’ I was about to find out!
Four busy years later, I started my own business in 2008, Dazzle ‘Em Event Design, and the excitement continued. Over the years, I have truly become a Baja destination wedding expert. I have planned Baja weddings on yachts, in villas, at resorts, beach clubs, and restaurants from San Jose del Cabo to Todos Santos (and even a few in San Diego.) I have had clients from almost every state, Italy, South Africa & Australia. My brides have walked down the aisle to the songs Pachebel’s Canon in D and Don’t You Wish Your Girlfriend Was Hot Like Me.
I’ve never had a runaway bride and only a very few Bridezillas/Groomzillas (everyone always asks me that, so here’s the answer!) I’ve planned weddings with just the groom, just the bride’s mom, and hundreds of thrilled and excited brides. The stories could go on & on…I’ve had such a fun time and lots of adventures during these past incarnations of my business.
And now for the big news! I am so proud to announce that I am re-launching my wedding planning business with updated branding, ideas and content, as Wanderlust Weddings Baja.
As I truly got to know my bridal couples, I realized there were two common denominators for a couple that chooses Baja for their wedding: they are adventurers at heart who love to wander the world together and experience all that it has to offer (and then share it with their friends and family.) I’m a wanderer too – that’s how I found my Baja home in the first place. They also have fallen in love with the beauty of Baja, it’s vistas, sea air, crashing waves, dirt roads, farm-to-table food, mango margaritas, and amazing people. So, Wanderlust + Weddings + Baja is a winning combination!
Folks, let’s be adventurous together! Please share my info with your inner (and outer) circle, and let’s produce weddings that are unique, special, and full of the Baja spirit! Please save my new contact information and I look forward to hearing from you soon! With wit & whimsy, Katie
